Dr Emma Leonard Boyle

Thank you for visiting my webpage.

I’m an Assistant Professor of Political Science at La Salle University, specializing in International Relations. I graduated from The Pennsylvania State University in 2017 with a dual PhD in Political Science and African Studies, and previously studied at Oxford University (MSc African Studies) and the University of St Andrews (MA International Relations).

I have taught a variety of traditional and online classes, including Introduction to International Relations, Globalization, The Rise and Fall of Dictators, Introduction to Contemporary Africa, Political Psychology, Civil Wars and Peacebuilding, Political Analysis, and the Senior Seminar sequence.

My research interests center around the geography of violence. I’m particularly interested in explaining the geographic distribution of violence against civilians and sexual violence in civil wars. Further research interests include terrorism and how the presence of natural resources influence civil war violence.
